Vaccination Programme for Third Sector StaffThe current vaccine campaign offers vaccination against flu and COVID to all front-line staff in advance of an expected rise in both infections this winter. Both vaccines have been formulated to offer the best protection for currently circulating versions of the viruses and have not been offered to staff before. This programme will be ending at the end of March, so please take up the vaccine before then. See https://forumcentral.org.uk/third-sector-frontline-staff-covid-and-flu-vaccine-information/. Illicit TobaccoKerry Holmes is the new Illicit Tobacco Education Officer for West Yorkshire. Kerry will be working in and around West Yorkshire, delivering information and education on the dangers of smoking and illicit tobacco in the local community i.e. what it is, where it is and who is selling it. The aim is to educate people around the dangers associated with smoking, but also the negative impact on the wider community that the illicit tobacco trade plays and how it is also tied in with other criminality such as people trafficking, Child Sexual Exploitation, modern day slavery, drug smuggling, money laundering and funding terrorism. Legitimate businesses are harmed by the illicit tobacco trade and additional criminality is brought into areas that sell it. The ultimate aim is to get people to stop smoking using their local stop smoking services and removing illicit tobacco from the local communities helps in trying to achieve that. If you think there are any community groups that may benefit from a presentation on the subject, or you have any groups that require a guest speaker, please feel free to contact Kerry or share details with others. You can email Kerry on [email protected]. As health services will be extremely busy this winter, the NHS is asking everyone to play their part and to be better prepared during the cold and flu season. "To help manage pressures across our health and care system and support people to choose and stay well this winter, the ‘Together We Can’ (TWC) campaign is running again across West Yorkshire this year. The campaign helps people access health and care services at the right time and place. It also encourages people to choose well and to opt for convenient self-care, where safe to do so during the winter months. The public are still encouraged to come forward and not to delay if they need help or are concerned about their health, but we want to make sure that they’re using the right services and that they know when to go to a pharmacy, when to use NHS 111 or when to contact their GP practice. We would really appreciate your support in helping us to raise awareness of the campaign amongst your networks and groups. We have produced a digital toolkit to help you share information about the campaign on your websites, social media channels and in newsletters as appropriate. We also have printed materials available including A3 and A4 posters and A5 flyers. If you would like some, please email [email protected] and outline quantities and the best delivery address."
